When Did All the Republicans Go Nuts?

I remember a time when they weren't all whacko hypocrites.  Seems like forever, though.

The latest on Governor Sanford:

I keep thinking there was more to this -- that he's using the affair cover because he knows we're all just so tired of the 'wow! politicians are personality types who cheat!' revelations.

But I'm plotty that way.

But what would it be cover for? Smuggling arms into Iran?

If memory serves, sometime around 1988 the freeze-dried whackaloon contingent tipped the scales over into majority status. Since then they have multiplied, verily.

Verily and forsooth. Like lemmings. And they're all headed for the cliff.

Luckily fewer and fewer of us are paying attention.

In answer to your question: December 17th, 1987 -- I remember it well ;-).

More realistically, it happened bit-by-bit. First, we had Reagan describing the death of a heroic airman, only to have it come out that not only did he have the particulars wrong, but it happened in a movie. Well enough, most of us suspected Reagan had Alzheimer's well before the official announcement. Things got slowly weirder over the next 20 years, until we learned, to our great sorrow, that the director of FEMA was a show-horse judge. And that we all agreed that "Brownie" was "doing a heck of a job," but meant something rather different than he who said it. (Er, and that *a* Brownie could have done a better job.)

Okay, that one is really special. Take off for four days to another country and NO ONE knows where you went? Not your wife or your staff?

Right. Way to work on those marriage problems....

I like the fact he voted to impeach Clinton on three of four counts.
